Those were the things that I expected- they were the obvious aspects of the story, and don’t get me wrong- they were very well done and worked out well in the overall plot line, but the real star for me in Tyed was the unexpected softness to Ty. Sure there was alpha dominance and strength with huge fights, as well as insecurity issues with Blaire. Plus reviews were saying great things about Ty, and I love a strong alpha male character. Where was that going to go? And could it really be true? I wanted to find out. The idea that Blaire was the less successful and somehow not as pretty twin of a supermodel seemed like such an intriguing idea to me. But when I read the description of Tyed, I felt drawn to the book and the characters, which is always an excellent start. It isn’t that I dislike them, but normally I don’t feel the appeal in the summary. I don’t have the opportunity to read very many fighting books. In From Here to Equality, William Darity Jr. Economic data indicates that for every dollar the average white household holds in wealth the average black household possesses a mere ten cents. Today, systematic inequality persists in the form of housing discrimination, unequal education, police brutality, mass incarceration, employment discrimination, and massive wealth and opportunity gaps. Viscount Longworth put down his glass of burgundy so abruptly that it spilled on the white damask tablecloth. Have you heard? Cheviot went and put a bullet in his brain. Love Is the Drug, the newest young adult novel from Alaya Dawn Johnson, is preoccupied with that very question it's a world on the edge of dystopia, and it's all very real indeed. The overarching question: How do these new orders ever begin? Complaints about these high-concept stories often, and with varying legitimacy, exist in the Hows. Though some dystopias are bound to seem more plausible than others, the nature of these stories, especially those written for young adults - the heightened fable of the premise (with all the eye-rolling this can sometimes provoke) and the realistic teenage psyches being mapped on top of them - usually means that the books open in an established status quo.
